The Division of Epidemiology and Community Health, School of Public Health, University of Minnesota seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor with expertise in infectious disease epidemiology to join a growing program in infectious disease research and training.
Responsibilities of this position are to develop a strong research program in infectious disease epidemiology, including applying epidemiologic methods to the design, conduct and analysis of studies of the distribution, etiology, risk factors, transmission, prevention and control of infectious diseases. Successful candidates are expected to lead epidemiologic research as Principal Investigator, maintain a track record of grant-funded research, author manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, and develop collaborations. Responsibilities of this position also include teaching epidemiologic methods and/or other aspects of infectious disease epidemiology to Master's and Doctoral students and being able to mentor our MPH and PhD students on a wide variety of infectious disease topics.
The Division of Epidemiology and Community Health (http://www.sph.umn.edu/epi) provides a rich and collaborative environment for the investigation of the etiology, distribution, prevention, and control of infectious and non-infectious diseases, in both clinical and behavioral areas. The Division offers graduate training programs leading to the MPH, MS and PhD degrees, and has active pre- and post-doctoral training. It has 50 primary faculty who bring in over $30 million annually in sponsored research grants, and an additional 80 adjunct faculty. Current infectious disease faculty in the Division of Epidemiology and Community Health have research interests that include HIV, vaccine preventable diseases, HPV, sexually transmitted infections, viral hepatitis, and other communicable diseases. There are also opportunities for multidisciplinary collaborations with other colleagues in the Division of Epidemiology and Community Health, whose research includes cancer, community health promotion, maternal and child health, nutrition, alcohol and tobacco use, and cardiovascular disease. Globally, infectious diseases are a major source of morbidity and mortality that particularly affect disadvantaged and marginalized populations. The study of health disparities and addressing public health needs of disadvantaged and marginalized is an important focus of the Division.
There are multiple opportunities to collaborate on infectious disease projects with colleagues in other Divisions within the School of Public Health, including Biostatistics, Environmental Health, and Health Policy & Management. The University of Minnesota is a large and energetic academic institution with an Academic Health Center consisting of the School of Public Health, School of Medicine, School of Pharmacy, School of Nursing, and School of Veterinary Medicine, and there are also multiple opportunities to collaborate with investigators from these Schools. There are also possibilities to partner with local hospitals and clinics, such as the Veterans Administration and Hennepin County Medical Center. Faculty in the infectious disease epidemiology program also have a strong history of collaboration with local public health agencies, especially the Minnesota Departments of Health, with whom the Division has active training and research partnerships. Finally, the multi-ethnic population of the Twin Cities, including Minnesota's immigrants, provides rich opportunities to conduct community-engaged research with diverse and often underserved populations.

1) Previous training in epidemiology or a related field with a degree of
(a) PhD, DrPH, ScD or equivalent; or
(b) MD or equivalent with MPH, MS or equivalent in epidemiology or related field;
2) Research experience in human infectious disease epidemiology;
3) Demonstrated history of successful external research funding or evidence of potential for obtaining external research funding;
