The Senior Director, Global Medical Information is accountable for leading the strategic transformation and operational execution of a world class Medical Information organization globally. This includes leadership of a globally deployed team of Medical Information professionals to meet AbbVie’s business need across on-market and pipeline assets. This role will oversee all operational execution aspects of this function including inquiry intake, content creation, request fulfillment, technology enablement, resourcing, while ensuring the highest standards of compliance and metric reporting. This role is accountable for the strategic vision to evolve the Medical Information capability to ensure that patients and healthcare professionals around the world have access to the information on Abbvie’s products to address their questions in innovative, effective and efficient manner while ensuring a strong external customer experience. This role is accountable to ensuring Medical Information responses are strategically aligned with AbbVie communication objectives and data, while leveraging external stakeholder insights to inform AbbVie’s initiatives and business priorities. This role is accountable for transforming and evolving the frontline capabilities across countries and geographical areas for responding to medical information inquiries in an aligned and consistent manner while maximizing the customer experience. This role will be a key strategic partner with cross functional stakeholders including Pharmacovigilance, Quality Assurance, Medical Affairs Global and US Therapeutic Area Teams, Clinical Development and Commercial at the Global, Area and Affiliate levels.
Oversee and lead a team of Medical Information professionals globally including team of 40 with direct line reporting accountability and indirect reporting responsibilities of approximately 100 individuals across greater than 50 affiliates inclusive of front line call center staff.
Leads strategic direction for Medical Information capability globally to ensure AbbVie is strategically and optimally addressing external stakeholder informational needs and questions, in a timely manner, for Abbive’s on-market and pipeline products and services.
Build, maintain, and optimize future vision of Medical Information capabilities globally to ensure medical information needs of customers are met within evolving healthcare landscape.
Lead the creation of relevant standards, SOPs, and supporting training to ensure Medical Information capabilities and activities are aligned globally and are being executed to a common standard and high degree of excellence to meet AbbVie's business needs. Requires strong working partnership across multiple functions including OEC and Legal.
Lead the lifecycle investment approach for medical information globally across all geographical regions including the United States to optimize and align medical information resources/staff across countries and geographical regions related budget to ensure Therapeutic Area and other business priorities and strategies are appropriately resourced including differing approaches across LBUs and SBUs.
Drives alignment and accountability in global content development and dissemination versus local country accountability across all affiliates.
Oversee a strong Medical Information presence at AbbVie prioritized congresses, globally leveraging innovative digital technologies.
Develop and lead front line capabilities of call centers globally including the US call centers. Accountable for establishing expectations to ensure a maximized customer experience across frontline capabilities.
Oversee the analysis and reporting of insights from customer questions and interactions to provide critical customer perspective into Medical Affairs, Clinical Development and Commercial strategic plans and initiatives.
Accountable for the analysis and communication of exceptional insights to AbbVie Senior leadership across Areas globally and contribute to cross-functional development of medical positions and messaging for highly visible global pharmaceutical issues and product related developments of strategic importance to AbbVie.
Establish the vision for digital medical information engagement and the development, maintenance and ongoing innovation of technology solutions and platforms to ensure a world class Medical Information capability for AbbVie. Partner with PV and QA teams to ensure a well-integrated and cohesive approach to support AbbVie’s business needs.
Ensure robust metrics and related compliance monitoring is in place and tracked across all Areas, with specific customization to meet the needs of the US Area.
Establish Medical Information launch readiness plan to ensure internal and external customer information needs are addressed specifically ensuring alignment and support of medical information resource to Field Medical teams.
Serve as a key business partner with Commercial leadership to ensure alignment and integration of Medical Information function into AbbVie’s business model and in-field ways of working to meet external stakeholder needs, while supporting a competitive advantage for AbbVie. This requires strong negotiation with Commercial, Regulatory, Legal, and Compliance counterparts to make high-risk decisions that have company impact.

Education: Advanced degree in related healthcare field (science, health care, technology/informatics, business management). Doctorate degree preferred.
Experience: Greater than or equal to 10 years of pharmaceutical experience, with direct people management and demonstrated leadership success in a pharmaceutical or biotech company. 5 – 7 years of pharmaceutical management experience required, with demonstrated understanding of the complexities and success of working in the global pharmaceutical environment. Greater than or equal to 5 years in a senior leadership role within a Medical Information/Medical Communications function preferred.
Must work well within the global pharmaceutical environment, with a strong understanding of the cultural dynamics and unique aspects of medical affairs success across Abbvie's regional markets. Must have demonstrated excellent collaboration and ability to easily build relationships and gains cross functional alignment.
