St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has established a dynamic electron microscopy facility that is home to the latest technology in 3D Electron Microscopy with serial block face and ion-ablation microscopes. The facility also houses a 200 kV FEG transmission electron microscope with automated tomography capabilities. With state-of-the-art ancillary equipment supporting all EM platforms and an energetic, talented, and multi-disciplinary staff, the facility expertly supports and advances the research endeavors of the faculty at St. Jude.
The Director of the Electron Microscopy facility has the opportunity to become deeply involved in a wide array of basic science and translational research projects, assisting world-renowned investigators in answering their scientific questions. The successful applicant will be responsible for managing the electron microscopy facility within the institution's Cell and Tissue Imaging (CTI) shared resource and collaborating with faculty and staff on exciting and innovative research projects. Daily responsibilities include managing the accurate and efficient performance of laboratory staff, including quality control, instrument maintenance and optimizing project turnaround times. In addition to the management responsibilities, the Director will oversee all work performed and is expected to play an integral role in the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, like coordinating investigator consolations, sample preparation, data processing, and data analysis. The Director is expected to maintain extensive knowledge and expertise in current and emerging electron microscopy techniques and the associated preparation protocols.
Our current resources include the FEI Tecnai TF20, FEI Teneo VS, and Helios FIB-SEM systems. Individuals with experience in 3DEM are strongly encouraged to apply.
Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific area or equivalent experience working in an electron microscopy resource facility required, PhD strongly preferred.
Ten (10) years of laboratory experience is required of which at least five (5) years are required in electron microscopy and microscopy-based preparation protocols.
