DSM is seeking a Clinical Biochemist to serve hospital-based laboratories throughout Manitoba, in both urban and rural settings, as part of a provincial team of Clinical Biochemists. The successful candidate will be located in Winnipeg at one of the University of Manitoba affiliated hospitals, with visits to sites throughout the province as required. Our laboratories serve patients in both hospital and community settings. As a member of the Clinical Biochemistry team, working with laboratory staff throughout the province of Manitoba, this individual will provide professional support to physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals in the area of Clinical Biochemistry on a province-wide basis.
Reporting to the Clinical Biochemistry Medical Director, the ideal candidate will be highly motivated, willing to work both in team settings and independently, and have excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational skills. A strong background in general clinical chemistry with excellent analytical and interpretive skills is required. Skill in data extraction and analysis to support system optimization is an asset.
Service responsibilities of this position will be focused in general chemistry and point-of-care-testing, and include quality oversight, equipment/method selection and validation, pre-analytical processes, policy and procedure development and review, quality improvement, appropriate test utilization, communication/liaison with physicians, nurses and allied health professionals, Regional Health Authorities and clinical programs. Academic responsibilities include providing CME for staff and physicians; teaching in our CACB accredited post-doctoral training program in Clinical Biochemistry and other medical residency and student programs; developing/participating in collaborative or independent research initiatives, depending on interest.

Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant field and be Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry or eligible for certification, individuals with certification from the American Board of Clinical Chemistry, DABCC will also be considered.
