Two postdoctoral positions are available immediately in the laboratory of Professor Anne M. Andrews (www.serotonin.ucla.edu) at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, University of California, Los Angeles to participate in NIH-funded projects.
One project focuses on the combined effects of maternal stress and prenatal exposure to antidepressants on adult offspring emotion-related behavior and serotonin neurotransmission. A second project is focused on developing and using biosensors, i.e., carbon-fiber microelectrodes, aptamer-modified field-effect transistors, for neurotransmitter monitoring in behaving mice.
Qualified candidates should submit a CV, brief description of applicable background and interests, and contact information for three professional references to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. with significant basic science research experience.
Experience with mouse or rat intracranial surgeries and post-operational care.
Experience with in vivo voltammetry, e.g., fast-scan cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, biosensors, e.g., amperometry, enzyme-electrodes, or in vivo electrophysiology.
Ability to design and carry out experiments with minimal supervision.
Strong data analysis skills, e.g., SAS, MATLAB, Photoshop.
Excellent scientific/technical writing and communication skills exemplified by a record of first-authored publications in quality peer-reviewed journals and scientific presentations at national meetings.
Experience with mouse behavior testing, e.g., elevated plus maze, open field, novelty suppressed feeding, fear conditioning, mouse colony management, e.g., selective breeding, immunohistochemistry, and/or instrumentation development are desirable.
Additional Salary Information: Salary range is for postdoctoral fellows with 0-2 years experience. Salaries for appointments at the levels of Research Scientist or Research Technician are as per published University of California salary scales.
