The Epigenetics and Stem Cell Biology Laboratory (ESCBL) within the Division of Intramural Research (DIR) of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is recruiting a tenure-track Investigator in the areas of transcription, epigenetics, or chromatin biology. Scientists within the ESCBL (https://www.niehs.nih.gov/research/atniehs/labs/escbl/index.cfm) investigate the fundamental mechanisms by which epigenetics influences chromatin architecture, transcription, and gene expression. These investigations make use of normal, cancer and embryonic stem cells to provide insights into biological processes and to understand how environmental influences on epigenetic regulation may result in consequences to human health. The NIEHS is located in the Research Triangle Park (RTP), a world renowned academic research center in North Carolina and an area well known for its high quality of life. The successful candidate is expected to lead an innovative, independent research program exploring epigenetics, chromatin architecture or transcription that enhances our understanding the effects of the environment on human health. Investigators in the NIH intramural program (https://oir.nih.gov/) have no formal teaching duties and minimal administrative responsibilities. They are funded internally with the potential for generous long-term continuous support. In exchange they are expected to engage directly in the conduct of high impact research with students, postdoctoral fellows and support staff, and to collaborate with their colleagues to solve important scientific problems related to the Institute's mission. Excellent start-up funds, salary, and benefits packages will be provided to the selected applicant, who will also have access to state-of-the-art research core facilities (https://www.niehs.nih.gov/research/atniehs/facilities/index.cfm).

We will only accept the completed foreign education evaluation. For more information on foreign education verification, visit the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) website. Verification must be received prior to the effective date of the appointment.
NIH provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities. If you require reasonable accommodation during any part of the application and hiring process, please notify us. The decision on granting reasonable accommodation will be made on a case-by-case basis.
Applicants should have a Ph.D., M.D. and/or equivalent doctoral degree with at least 3 years of postdoctoral research experience in their field and an outstanding publication record. The emphasis will be on identifying an exceptional scientist with an innovative and productive research program. Applications from women and under-represented minorities are strongly encouraged. Appointees may be U.S. citizens, resident aliens, or non-resident aliens with, or eligible to obtain, a valid employment-authorization visa.
The successful candidate for this position will be appointed at a salary commensurate with experience and accomplishments with full Federal benefits, including leave, health and life insurance, retirement, and savings plan (401K equivalent).

About National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, NIH
The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, is one of 27 research institutes and centers that comprise the National Institutes of Health (NIH) , U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) . The mission of the NIEHS is to discover how the environment affects people in order to promote healthier lives. The NIEHS traces ...its roots to 1966, when the U.S. Surgeon General announced the establishment of the Division of Environmental Health Sciences within the NIH. In 1969, the division was elevated to full NIH institute status. Since then, the NIEHS has evolved to its present status as a world leader in environmental health sciences, with an impressive record of important scientific accomplishments and a proud history of institutional achievements and growth.Today the NIEHS is expanding and accelerating its contributions to scientific knowledge of human health and the environment, and to the health and well-being of people everywhere.
