The Risk Management Assistant (RN) will provide support to the implementation of the risk management program for ThedaCare with the objective of controlling and minimizing financial loss to protect the system's assets. Supports the day to day operation of the risk management program activities.
Reviews incident and security reports for potential compensable events in assigned facilities. Gathers facts during investigation and determines which incidents pose potential exposure. Assist in initial containment of a sentinel or high exposure adverse event.
Initiates claim requests during initial and ongoing investigations. Documents all activities and correspondence related to event. Protect and preserve all health information and any other documents for potential future litigation.
Participates in all Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for assigned facilities. Identifies possible breaches of the standard of care (SOC). Assists in identifying corrective actions.
Accepts and -assesses all subpoenas sent to ThedaCare employees. Reviews case involved to make a determination of whether an attorney will be needed. Identifies deficiencies in subpoenas and works directly with counsel to resolve the deficiencies. Works with providers to help navigate the deposition or testimony process.
Provides guidance and advice regarding daily legal questions such as Power of Attorney, Guardianships, rights of minors, consents, refusals of care, etc.

Qualifications: Education Required: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required. Licensure Required: Valid Wisconsin Registered Nurse License
Experience: Required: Minimum of two years' experience in risk management or as a healthcare paralegal Preferred: Paralegal for medical malpractice law firm or insurance company
