Mississippi State University is accepting applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of construction engineering and management (CEM). The appointment will be in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) within the Bagley College of Engineering and is anticipated to begin August 2017 at the assistant professor level, though exceptionally qualified candidates will be considered for a higher academic rank.
Candidates are sought with expertise related to horizontal and vertical infrastructure construction and who compliment the department’s research and education missions in the areas of CEM, materials engineering, and geotechnical engineering. The CEM program is intended to compliment CEE’s Construction Materials Research Center, Mississippi Transportation Research Center and the regional construction industry. Exceptional candidates will be considered for appointment to the Richard A. Rula Professorship in Construction Engineering and Management.
Successful candidates will have an earned B.S. and Ph.D., or all but dissertation, in an appropriate engineering discipline from an institution offering ABET-accredited degrees in that discipline. Professional and academic experience is highly desirable. Candidates should have a potential for sustaining a vigorous externally-funded research program and a dynamic portfolio of graduate and undergraduate educational competencies. Preference will be given to candidates with a Professional Engineering license.
The department currently has 12 faculty, one instructor, 36 adjunct faculty, 473 undergraduate students and 111 graduate students. The department offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate program in civil engineering with an option for a concentration in environmental engineering and maintains a highly-ranked international graduate distance education program. Research and instruction at undergraduate and graduate levels are offered in construction, environmental, geotechnical, materials, structures, transportation, and water resources engineering fields.
