The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences is searching for a full-time, nine-month, tenure track position in nutrition at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, to commence Fall 2017. Additional opportunities exist for faculty to receive extra compensation via external grants. UNLV has a new president and provost, in addition to a new Dean of Allied Health Sciences. The department currently serves more than 1,500 undergraduate and 50 graduate students, including 15 doctoral students, and is committed to generating new knowledge within our fields. We also strive to develop professionals in the evidence-based practice of kinesiology and nutrition. UNLV has both an ACEND accredited undergraduate DPND and Dietetic Internship. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue an active research agenda leading to external funding and publications in high-quality refereed journals. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a focused research agenda in nutrition including obesity, human energy metabolism, biomarkers of chronic disease, or behavioral aspects. However, the quality of research coupled with the potential for external funding is clearly more important than the particular research area. Additional responsibilities include mentoring students at the undergraduate and graduate level, including PhD students. The candidate will be expected to teach courses in the general area of nutrition and may have the opportunity to develop courses in their field of expertise.
This position requires a doctorate in nutrition or closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university. A record of external funding or significant potential to obtain external funding is required, as is a history of quality teaching at the university level. Postdoctoral training is ideal but not required. Ability to contribute to an interdisciplinary laboratory and research team within the department and university is essential. Candidate must meet eligibility requirements to begin and continue working in the United States at the time of appointment. Although not required, applicants should indicate if they have experience in ACEND accredited programs, or are Registered Dietitian Nutritionists that are eligible for licensure in Nevada.
