The Director of Infection Prevention oversees the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the Infection Prevention (IP) Program for CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System facilities.
Facilitates the annual hospital-wide program for surveillance, prevention and control of infection.
In an ongoing manner, plans and implements corrective actions to address IP needs identified in any method as well as in organizational assessment and surveillance activities.
Coordinates the overall IP program for Tyler area facilities and lends support and consultation regarding Infection Prevention to other CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances entities.
Exemplifies leadership in the ability to continually move the IP program forward.
Integrates IP activities with the rest of the organziation's primary functions.
Oversees the review and revision of IP policies to assure compliance with regulating and accrediting bodies as well as assisting associates to meet relevant recommended standards for IP.
Continually seeks knowledge on an independent basis in IP practices and approaches in order to remain current in field.
Coaches and develops the skills and talents of the IP department's employees. Supervises the hiring, training, and discharge of staff that report to this Director.
Uses relevant and effective adult learning approaches to teach IP practices and standards to all staff whenever the occasion arises or the opportunity to do so is available.
Develops and maintains professional working relationships with staff and leadership, including the Medical Director of the IP program.
Plans and facilitates the hospital Infection Prevention Committee agenda and activities.
Works in consultation with the Medical Director of Infectious Disease to facilitate the Infection Prevention Program for the system.
Facilitates corporate IP initiatives and participates in all required corporate-sponsored activities.
Effectively allocates financial, physical and human resources to accomplish business related tasks. Maintains efficient IP processes both in the clinical setting as well as in the department.
Bachelor's degree (Nursing, Microbiology, Medical Technology, Public Health or other related field)
3-5 years in acute care hospital facility in Infection Prevention program. Experience as IP Director is preferred.
Experienced in using clinical surveillance software, such as MedMined, TheraDoc or Midas.
Must be generally familiar with equipment used in acute care hospitals particularly equipment that may be a cause or a factor in hospital acquired infections.
Must be able to take leadership role in cost-effective prevention of transmissible diseases.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to educate and respond to hospital and external agency personnel.
Knowledge and understanding of various types of healthcare principles, particularly the basic concepts related to the practice of medicine and nursing; knowledge of patient care issues related to IP, microbiology, pathology, immunology and epidemiology. Familiarity with the kinds of statistics used in various IP reporting functions.
Knowledge of pertinent regulatory, accrediting and advisory body requirements for acute care hospitals including, but not limited to, state and federal regulations, The Joint Commission and recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
