The Opportunity We seek a dynamic leader, an experienced and innovative medical educator, who is passionate about educating new physicians into the 21st century.This is one of the newest medical campuses and it has graduated 3 different classes that have been accepted into a plethora of the most prestigious postgraduate training programs from coast to coast.The program is known to have successfully implemented an integrated, small group based, hybrid pedagogical approach to the medical curriculum in a smaller class size of 40 per year or total of 160.Emphasis on life-long learning, is informed by current learning science, and is grounded in the application of basic science to evidence based clinical decision making. The program has two major affiliate community hospitals that are regional in scope of services and located in the same community.These facilities, along with participating private practice physicians and urgent care clinics, offer medical students a real-time training experience.
The Associate Dean for Curriculum will play a key role in leadership, and be responsible for leading and managing the four-year undergraduate medical education curriculum at the AU/UGA Medical Partnership campus in collaboration with the main Curriculum office in Augusta. The successful candidate will be a member of the Campus Dean's Senior Leadership Team at the AU/UGA Medical Partnership campus in Athens, Georgia and report directly to the Campus Dean.
The Campus Associate Dean responsibilities include:
Providing oversight of Curriculum Office operations, including curriculum design and refinement, curriculum implementation and coordination, as well as assessment of student achievement and curriculum evaluation.
Working with the MCG Office of Evaluation Services to ensure timely evaluation and continued quality improvement of the Partnership medical education program.
Participating in all relevant standing educational committees including:
Curriculum Oversight Committee and Ad Hoc COC Subcommittees
Phase I/II and III Curriculum Committees
Student Promotions Committee and Subcommittees
Participating in regular meetings with the leadership at MCG in Augusta, including:
MCG Dean’s Staff meetings
Campus Coordination meetings
Providing leadership, supervision, and coordination of the activities of the personnel staffing the Curriculum Office as well as its direct reports.
Working closely and collaboratively with the Campus Associate Dean for Medical Education at the AU/UGA Medical Partnership and Vice Dean at the Medical College of Georgia to ensure the overall curriculum meets the mission of the Medical College of Georgia.
Engaging collaboratively with the Campus Dean and all members of the senior leadership team at the Medical Partnership.
Participating in national educational organizations (e.g. AAMC) and playing an active role in making presentations about the development, implementation, and progress of MCG and the AU/UGA Medical Partnership.

Doctoral degree in a discipline directly relevant to medical education
Five to seven years of significant experience in medical education curriculum development, management and oversight, as evidenced by Directorship of a Clerkship, a Pre-clinical curricular segment, or other appropriate leadership positions.
Significant experience with one or more curricula that integrate foundational sciences, clinical sciences, and learning sciences.
(Preferred) - Significant experience with small-group centered, case-based learning.
Demonstrated capacity to undertake and complete one or more curricular innovation(s).
Board Certification if MD or DO candidate.
Able to obtain an unrestricted medical license in the state of Georgia.
Able to obtain appropriate hospital credentials and privileges.
Able to obtain an unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration license.
Current in-depth knowledge and understanding of LCME accreditation standards and requirements.
Passion for teaching and learning with medical students and helping them reach their full potential as physicians.
Strong organizational skills.
Recognized as a respected member of the medical education and professional community.
