Directs and coordinates activities of one or more departments such as Geotechnical Engineering Design and Construction, Pavement Engineering, Environmental Remediation and Engineering, SWIPP and Geology. Provides general management over finance, marketing, business development, dispatch, materials, quality assurance/control, human resources, and information systems for the division. Makes decisions regarding improving productivity, quality, and efficiency of operations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is a high level position of responsibility for steering the business development of a dynamic and growing engineering firm specializing in the earth and water engineering services. The successful candidate will have an intimate knowledge of the A/E community throughout California and the western United States. The primary responsibilities will be:
Prepares or directs preparation and modification of Professional reports.
Participates in formulating and administering department policies and developing long range goals and objectives.
Directs and coordinates activities of department or division for which responsibility is delegated to further attainment of goals and objectives.
Confers with CEO, Owners and other administrative personnel to review achievements and discuss required changes in goals or objectives resulting from changes in business conditions.
Manages the Geotechnical Engineering Design and Construction, Pavement Engineering, Environmental Remediation and Engineering, SWIPP and Geology. Reviews analyses of activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine department or division progress toward stated goals and objectives. This will include the review of profit & loss statements for accuracy, and reviewing issues with the Senior Controller prior to issuance of final statements.
Manages Quality Control Department and directs Quality Control/Quality Assurance programs for all facilities.
Participate in professional liability loss control measures.
Prepares marketing, estimating, preparing proposals, and actively participating in presentations.
Attends meetings in both formal and informal settings with clients and contractors.
Reviews geotechnical engineering and geologic hazard reports prepared by staff.
Reviews Phase 1 ESA reports prepared by staff.
Reviews letters prepared by staff.
Mentors other engineers and geologists.
Interacts with other department and division personnel within the company.
Assisting sister companies as required
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and problem resolution.
Organize and implement a strategic marketing plan
Development and maintenance of a network of client relationships that will foster growth in the identified strategic markets
Coordination with company principals on the implementation of the marketing plan
Oversight and mentoring of marketing coordinators
Regular and active attendance to professional meetings and societies within the A/E community
Supervision of major proposal efforts

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information to individuals and committees and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, internal and external customers, and the general public.
Ability to perform and apply standard and advanced mathematical concepts, calculations and symbols, including interpreting technical documents, drawings and plans thus enabling effective communication with project managers, contractors, architects, engineers and various jurisdictions and government agencies.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
