Nature of Work: This position is a senior level, licensed professional (PE) design engineer for the Maryland Transportation Authority's Office of Engineering and Construction (MDTA OEC). The incumbent works in the Environmental Division under the direct supervision of the Environmental Manager. The primary focus of this position consists of project management of all phases of large and complex stormwater engineering projects. Additionally, this position will support other departments and sections with stormwater engineering aspects of multidiscipline projects. Duties include, but are not limited to, planning, organizing, coordinating, assigning, evaluating, and supervising subordinate project engineers; consultants, technicians and administrative staff. This important role will be responsible for supporting MDTA's Stormwater Program and will manage or coordinate projects related to the systems' stormwater quality management devices; erosion and sediment controls, environment permitting, wetland mitigation, stream restoration and other environmental practices. This position provides technical expertise on stormwater design, construction, inspection, and remedial engineering projects; including performing detailed condition and stormwater assessments, engineering recommendations; complex design and plans; specification and estimate preparation; tracking and management of environmental assets and planning studies. This position is also responsible for satisfying the stormwater requirements for National Pollutant Discharge System (NPDES) stormwater permits. The incumbent will work with State and Federal agencies in the acquisition and compliance of stormwater permits.
The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of stormwater management practices, hydraulics, hydrology, erosion/ sediment controls, and roadway drainage. This position requires expert knowledge of the principles, standards, and regulations associated with stormwater management processes; including expertise in innovative contracting with on-call construction contracts. Possession of a Maryland Professional Engineer license is required. Evidence of license must be presented at the time of appointment.

Experience: One (1) year of experience managing engineering projects as a licensed, professional engineer and*Two years of experience in project management as it relates to the design and/or construction of transportation projects.
