This is a 12-month, tenure-track, 100% Extension position within the University of Tennessee Extension in Knoxville, TN. Screening of applicants’ credentials will begin April 1, 2018, and continue until the position is filled.
Tennessee has strong statewide public health leadership that focuses on community-based solutions. The University of Tennessee (UT) Extension, the outreach unit of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA), is a strong partner addressing health challenges across the state. UT Extension FCS focuses on a multi-disciplinary approach addressing social determinants of health in rural and urban communities. FCS seeks a Community Health faculty member to contribute to the missions of the FCS department, UT Extension, and UTIA.
Plan, develop and implement research-based community health programs that serve Tennesseans across the state. Extension programs in community health include, but are not limited to, the following: health across the lifespan, health policy, substance use and misuse, rural health care, environmental health, and disaster preparedness.
Provide interpretation and application of current research, emerging issues and legislation related to the above topics, and set program direction.
Lead multi-disciplinary collaborations.
Develop networks and coalitions with state, regional, and national groups.
Develop electronic and print media, curricula, lesson plans, brochures, fact sheets, and other educational materials for dissemination.
Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of state-wide programs in community health; report to the appropriate state and national agencies and to program stakeholders.
Provide leadership and technical guidance to county Extension agents/educators by phone, email, on-line training, and in-service trai Technical guidance includes interpreting current research findings, needs assessments, educational strategies, evaluation methods, data collection, data interpretation, coalition building, and staff development and mentoring.
Enhance expertise in community health by publishing peer-reviewed journal articles, Extension publications, attending and presenting at professional meetings, and active membership in relevant professional organizations.
Seek internal and external resources to support and enhance programs.
Provide service and leadership within the department, the university, and the profession.
Provide educational materials and programs for clientele regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex, veteran status or disability.
Earned doctorate in Community Health, Public Health, Health Communication, Family and Consumer Sciences, Human Sciences or closely related field

Demonstrated success in grant and contract efforts
Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate curricula appropriate for youth and adult audiences
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Accomplished educator with high quality presentation skills
Demonstrated ability to serve as a supportive team member both in a leadership and membership role
Evidence of scholarship through scientific presentations and publications
Training and experience in needs assessment and evaluation
Experience with Cooperative Extension
Expertise in one or more of the following public health issues:
Substance use and misuse
Demonstrated ability to schedule, coordinate and provide outreach education to individuals, families, and professionals
Nationally recognized in discipline
