Engineer – Quality Management #02195
Puget Sound Energy’s Quality Management Department is looking for an Engineer to join our team. This position will be filled as an Engineer or Associate Engineer depending on the qualifications of the candidate.
This role will provide professional engineering service and quality control support in the construction, operation, and maintenance of PSE gas and electric Transmission and Distribution (T&D) energy systems. The successful applicant to this position will serve as a technical resource in the full spectrum of quality, working closely with Standards Engineers, Construction Managers, Project Managers, Transmission Engineers and Gas Design Engineers. Responsibilities include commodity quality engineering and major project construction inspection and test plans. Additionally, this energy neutral engineering role provides the opportunity to facilitate continuous improvement for PSE operations; and support enterprise-wide quality management. The engineer in this role will interpret and apply existing guidelines and engineering principles, practices, and theories toward the completion of assignments involving a substantial degree of complexity, with many interrelated elements requiring considerations not previously encountered.

Interprets and/or modifies available guidelines for application to existing problems or processes.
Provides a detailed review of internal or external technical documents including new and existing manufacturer, service provider and contractor quality control plans.
Ensures compliance with standards, design requirements and federal, state and local codes and regulations.
Identifies potential areas of weakness with assigned work and initiates corrective action.
Works with cross-departmental teams to investigate, evaluate and resolve quality issues across the full-system lifecycle from incoming materials to construction and maintenance of PSE’s gas and electric T&D system.
Works with cross-departmental teams to generate and document job specific quality control plans for high risk assets.
Provides Quality Assurance program support including root cause analysis; data analysis; and corrective action project management.
Develops/implements technology solutions for department.
Serves as department liaison for business unit quality management implementation.
Self-directs work assignments and communicates effectively with a variety of internal and external customers.
May lead or coordinate the work of others who assist on specific projects.
Supports emergency response work as requested including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures.
Ensures that problem solutions are tailored to PSE’s business environment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or other appropriate engineering field
3-7 years of experience in engineering design, preparation of specifications, technical field work, or system studies.
Experience in project cost estimating or scheduling
Organization, documentation, prioritization, and project management skills.
Experience working in the utility industry.
Possession of or ability to acquire a Professional Engineering license.
Familiarity with state and federal regulations pertaining to utility operations and general industry practices.
Experience working on complex engineering projects.
Possession of or ability to acquire ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQA) certification.
Possession of or ability to acquire Six Sigma certification.
Familiarity with ISO 9000/9001 quality management standards.
Highly proficient in MS Office suite and SAP
