Currently there is one (1) full-time Civil Engineer - Plan Check vacancy in the Community Development Department, Building Division. The eligibility list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future Civil Engineer - Plan Check vacancies as they occur.
Candidates are required to submit a complete online application and attach a resume detailing their related experience and education in order for the application package to be considered complete. Those candidates deemed most qualified as reflected in their application will be invited to an oral interview, tentatively scheduled for May 15, 2018. Candidates that pass the oral interview process will be placed on an employment eligibility list.
DEFINITION: To review building plans and calculations, and to determine completeness and compliance with applicable City and state building codes.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:This is the second level in the flexibly staffed Plan Check Engineer Series. An Associate Plan Check Engineer may progress to this level after one year at the Associate level, satisfactory job performance, and recommendation of the Department Director.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Receives direction from the Principal Civil Engineer - Plan Check.
Experience: A combination of three years of experience checking building plans and/or multi-phased structural design may be deemed equivalent.
Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, structural engineering, or architecture. Completion of continuing education classes and seminars on topics, i.e., Building Codes, State disabled access requirements, and energy requirements, highly desirable.
License/Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
Possession of State of California registration as a professional engineer or architect.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an ICC "Building Plans Examiner" certificate within one year of date of hire.
