Under the supervision and guidance of the President, the Materials Manager is responsible for managing the activities of purchasing, receiving, warehousing, shipping as well as overall inventory control of all component parts, finished goods, and resale products to meet the needs of the company. Also, this position is expected to manage the company supply chain to balance and optimize inventory and supplier relationships.
Primary Job Responsibilities
•Analyze and manage the materials control processes in order to optimize inventory, shorten lead times, lower costs and improve quality; •Maintain effective relationships with external suppliers and internal customers (production, product managers) to meet the material needs of the organization; •Utilize and build upon ERP and IT tools to analyze, forecast and manage material requirements; •Oversee purchasing and receiving of all materials for the company, including component parts, finished goods and resale inventory; •Manage warehousing processes such as stocking, distribution and inventory control of all materials including finished goods inventory between two company locations; •Oversee the shipping of finished goods and resale items; •Source, qualify and track component part vendors to assure a reliable supply of quality and economical component parts; •Provide leadership in selecting, developing, motivating and evaluating personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the materials team; •Establish key performance indicators and metrics, monitor ongoing performance and improve performance against set goals; •Identify and manage risk within the supply chain; •Drive continuous improvement activities in all materials control areas; •Maintain and issue inventory reporting, including inventory accuracy and scrap; •Maintain material control information (MAS, POs) accurately and up-to-date; •Work with production and engineering teams to design and deploy various replenishment methods (i.e. Kanban, sequencing, etc.) for supplying component parts to the manufacturing process.
Skills & Experience Required
•Bachelor's degree in business or engineering discipline; •A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the integrated functions of manufacturing and materials/purchasing; •Experience with manufacturing environments, especially industrial products; •Experience in operations, inventory management, MRP and lean manufacturing processes; •Familiarity with Microsoft Office products and ERP inventory control/shipping software.
This position also requires the following qualities: -Leadership and team-building; -Strong organizational skills; -Excellent communication skills - written and verbal; -Strong interpersonal skills to manage internal and external relationships; -Prior supervisory experience or demonstrable skills; and -Computer literacy - experience in using business automation systems and Microsoft office products.
