The Risk Specialist utilizes expertise in mitigating harm and financial loss through risk prevention, detection, evaluation, and reduction to support enterprise risk management efforts and safety.
Uses their understanding of healthcare processes to assist with investigations and follow-up of significant patient and visitor events. Monitors reporting system for potentially compensable events. Assists with risk assessments for proactive loss reduction measures.
Is an advisory resource in providing guidance to clinical and support departments for risk and liability concerns. Uses critical thinking skills to identify risk points and apply those concepts to a variety of situations in clinical settings. Works independently and collaboratively to provide a risk perspective in work groups and assigned committees.
Develops and presents staff educational offerings on risk awareness. Researches and promotes best practices designed to reduce or eliminate loss exposure. Assists with compliance of accrediting body standards and regulatory requirements in related areas. Participates in developing and carrying out plans that support the efforts of the risk management department.
Bachelor’s degree or clinical degree preferred. Comparable experience and training may be considered. Four or more years of healthcare, risk management, liability insurance, or legal experience. Knowledge and familiarity with healthcare. Clinical, direct patient care experience desired. CPHRM or related Risk Management certification desirable. Clinical license or certification preferred.
