Reports to: Associate Vice President, Conservation and Health
EcoHealth Alliance is seeking a research assistant to work as part of our modeling team, assisting on quantitative and spatial analyses related to zoonotic disease ecology, biodiversity and health, and conservation biology. This New York-based position is ideal for a recent MS or MPH graduate with a passion for the links between biodiversity and health (especially emerging zoonoses), and strong writing and analytical skills. Responsibilities include: spatial analysis of the interactions among biodiversity, zoonotic and other pathogen dynamics, and anthropogenic changes such as land use changes, and biodiversity loss; assisting with the collection, cleaning, and analyses of data; drafting manuscripts, grants, and reports; preparing presentations, info-graphics, posters, and other documents; managing collaboration among scientists at EcoHealth Alliance and globally; and providing administrative support. The position will be based in NYC, and occasional travel may be required.
Provide research, programmatic, and administrative support for the Associate Vice President, Conservation and Health
Work with EcoHealth Alliance modeling team and external collaborators to develop scientific research projects on emerging disease ecology, biodiversity and health, and conservation biology
Draft and submit grant and other funding applications, and reports
Coordinate and take minutes for meetings, workshops, and calls as well as report and submit timesheets and expense reporting
Assist with drafting scientific manuscripts for publication, presentations, and public reports as well as with project reporting and updates
Some assistance in outreach to donors, potential collaborators, and other institutions at conferences, scientific, and public meetings may be required
Work to ensure smooth functioning of programs at EcoHealth Alliance
Conduct literature reviews to provide detailed background for grant proposals, scientific manuscripts and other project needs
Assemble, clean, combine, and curate data sets from large, heterogeneous sources
Perform statistical analyses to understand the links between biodiversity, health, and anthropogenic activities.
Produce data and schematic visualizations
Assist with high quality scientific manuscripts for publication
Assist with budgeting for grants, including ensuring timely drafting and submission of reports as well as reminders about updates and contacting funding agencies
Assist with the development of other projects related to the EcoHealth Alliance programs
Assist with outreach to donors, media contacts, potential collaborators, and other institutions
Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Ecology, Biology, Public Health, or a related field
Strong quantitative analytical, database, and statistical skills and experience with R
Spatial analysis experience with GIS and remote sensing software
Demonstrable writing and research skills with some peer-reviewed publications
Previous experience on grant administration and writing or reporting for grants
Some experience with international research projects
Must be self-driven and highly motivated, organized, and willing to perform both research and administrative duties
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to place team before self and with a strong sense of diplomacy
Willingness to adjust working schedule according to international time zones
Fluency in written and spoken English required
Ability to conduct literature reviews, data collation and cleaning, and exploratory data analyses and visualizations
