Reporting to the VP Global Regulatory Affairs, this is a high-profile position at Medtonic where we are changing healthcare worldwide. This role will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to advocate and manage public policy strategy globally.
A Day in the Life
Provide medical device regulatory focused global advocacy and policy execution. Engage internal stakeholders to understand regulatory advocacy opportunities. Own the external global regulatory advocacy strategy and execution based on the internal agreed upon objectives.
Advocate for policies that advance Medtronic’s regulatory strategies. Provide external advocacy work and direct corporate advocacy staff. In partnership with local regional regulatory leaders, interact with regulatory authorities across the globe to respond to regulatory issues and to proactively influence regulatory policy. Anticipate when changes to global regulatory policy may impact business operations and respond accordingly by working with businesses and geographies to assess gaps and, where appropriate, implement risk mitigation plans.
Partner with Medtronic Government Affairs, Corporate Legal Affairs, Quality, Clinical, Reimbursement, and other internal functions
Develop and implement strategies to achieve timely commercialization of products and support of released products in compliance with applicable regulations
Support the VP Global Regulatory Affairs and other members of senior management in the development of positive relationships with senior government officials who influence the regulatory environment around the world
Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years of progressively more regulatory affairs responsible leadership or Master’s degree or other advanced degree and 13+ years of progressively more regulatory affairs responsible leadership
8+ years experience in medical device and/or pharmaceutical industry
Knowledge of medical device law and regulations
Extensive exposure to positive interaction globally with external government agencies involved in regulatory approval as well as internal related functions of quality, clinical, reimbursement, marketing, sales, product development, and operations
Track record that clearly indicates effective management and motivation of groups, effectiveness in setting and implementing business or functional strategies
Willingness and ability to travel
Nice to Have:
Proven ability to operate in a matrix organization and work effectively with Medtronic personnel and customers across geographic and organization boundaries
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; effective interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and leader others who may or may not report to this position
Proven ability to effectively interact with senior government officials in the U.S. and other countries and build strong proactive relationships with them
Ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives with demonstrated experience delegating and leading through others
Superior common sense and judgment
Strong work ethic and collaborative style
Capable of inspiring trust and confidence from stakeholders
Must have absolute integrity
