Assistant General Counsel, Legal Risk
As a leading medical center, it’s essential that we keep our operations running smoothly. That’s why we are seeking an Assistant General Counsel, Legal Risk, to identify, assess and address areas of legal risk and loss prevention throughout all areas in the hospital and outpatient settings. In this key role, you’ll proactively intervene to mitigate risk by developing and implementing plans for response planning, education and process improvement across the system. Serve as the in-house legal authority on legal risk issues – including power of attorney, guardianship, end-of-life decisions and mental health issues – and provide counsel to staff
Assist staff with difficult family/physician issues and assist in resolving disputes
Partner with Claims Management to identify potential claims to allow for early investigation and potential resolution
Assist with developing and maintaining risk policies and procedures across the organization
Assist in the development and implementation of crisis management plans
Provide data with benchmarking and trend analysis regarding legal risk issues, and facilitate plans to mitigate the risk
Proactively educate medical staff, nursing, ancillary departments, house staff and administration on legal risk issues
Juris Doctor (J.D.)
1 year experience practicing as an attorney
Experience as a risk manager or attorney handling guardianship and/or mental health issues is strongly desired
Experience in health care is strongly desired
Leadership acumen and experience is strongly desired
Proficient in designing and producing high-quality reports and presentations
Experience working collaboratively and independently
Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
An approachable, positive, energetic and proactive nature
A commitment to accountability, process improvement and excellence
