Exciting opportunity to work as a risk manager for a large, innovative senior living company with a growing risk management department. Primary focus will be on daily review of clinical incident reports, necessary follow up and prompt reporting of incidents to insurance carriers. The risk manager will also analyze incident data for trends and patterns; oversee internal investigations and root cause analyses; and develop training programs. FUNCTION: Contributes to the Company’s risk management activities and programs, with a focus on incident/claims management and reporting. Administers sound risk management principles and strategies to decrease the risk of harm and injury to residents. Analyzes incident, reporting, claims and other risk management data; provides advice and support to Company staff; develops training and educational programs; oversees incident reporting and claims management; other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviews large volume of clinical incidents ; coordinates with external resources to ensure complete, timely and accurate reporting of incidents to insurers; analyzes incident data for trends and patterns; assists with internal investigations and participates in root cause analyses;
Acts as a resource to corporate, divisional, regional, and community staff regarding risk management issues and concerns, including incidents, resident care concerns, family disputes, requests for medical records and other areas, as needed.
Evaluates, develops and manages risk management programs, including:
Counseling community leadership and staff regarding resident related incidents and occurrences;
Collaborating with divisional, regional and local leadership teams to develop and implement appropriate responses to incidents, emergencies, claims and other potential losses;
Collaborating with executive and regional/local leaders to ensure that risk mitigation plans and strategies are implemented and are effective.
Assists in the evaluation of professional and general liability claims; provides support and guidance to insured defendants throughout the pre-litigation and litigation process; coordinates, directs and monitors pre-litigation and litigation activities with national and local counsel and third party administrator.
Reviews and analyzes claims and risk management data to identify trends and recommend corrective action.
Develops, designs and implements risk management policies, procedures, initiatives and tools, and monitors results to evaluate effectiveness.
Able to travel (approximately 20%).

At least three (3) years prior risk management and/or claims management experience, preferably in a senior living or healthcare setting.
Excellent time management, critical thinking, conflict management and verbal/written communication skills. Excellent computer skills and data analysis skills. Self-motivated and able to work in a high pressure, fast paced, entrepreneurial environment with minimal supervision or direction.
Able to interact and partner with all levels of staff, including various field-level staff, executive (C-Suite) and management personnel, and key external advisers.
Able to prioritize risk management initiatives and interventions.
