Applications are now being accepted for multiple tenure track faculty positions at the assistant, associate, or full professor level. All candidates must have an earned doctorate in social work or a related social or health science discipline and a commitment to exemplary research that yields high quality scholarship with extramural funding potential. Faculty with any of the following areas of research expertise are most strongly encouraged to apply: practice or services research with lowincome and under-served individuals and families; health and behavioral health disparities; behavioral health integration and financing; housing and economic stability; and violence prevention and intervention. An MSW with two years of practice, program, or policy experience is preferred for those expecting to teach in those areas. We are also seeking applicants with exceptionally strong quantitative skills (e.g., for causal modeling, simulation, and Bayesian analysis) and the ability to teach PhD students. Applicants at the associate and full professor level must have substantial evidence of leadership, an innovative research agenda, and competitive extramural support. Senior faculty should also have experience mentoring junior faculty.
The University of Maryland School of Social Work (UM SSW) is one of the largest schools of social work in the country and is situated on an urban health and human services campus, and ranks among the top 20 schools of social work in scholarly productivity and reputation. We are a short distance away from the headquarters of SAMHSA, NIH, CMS, ACF, and HRSA.
Our School and campus are actively engaged in interprofessional education and interdisciplinary research. Placed on the graduate health and human services campus in Baltimore, the SSW is well integrated with our sister schools (Medicine, Nursing, Law, Pharmacy, and Dentistry) as well as the University of Maryland Medical System. The Campus receives about $500M a year and the SSW receives more than $35M a year in extramural funding to conduct translational research. The SSW is actively involved in UMB's Institute for Clinical and Translational Research. We have strong intramural funding and a post-doctoral program. We are also deeply involved in community practice and research with a US Department of Education Promise Neighborhood in nearby West Baltimore and the innovative and endowed Social Work Community Outreach Service, now 25 years old. We have an abiding commitment to increasing social justice and race equity and are actively involved with the Grand Challenges for Social Work Initiative.
The UM SSW is committed to a racially and culturally diverse faculty and student body. The School provides an intellectually exciting, collegial, and supportive faculty environment that fosters interdisciplinary research and interprofessional teaching. For best consideration, applications should be submitted by October 1, 2018; the search will remain open until filled. Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications.
