Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) invites applications for a 12-month tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank in the department of Health Behavior and Policy, within the School of Medicine and the VCU Institute for Inclusion, Inquiry and Innovation (iCubed) Oral Health and Childhood and Adolescence Transdisciplinary Core. The department’s mission is to bring together multidisciplinary faculty to promote research and scholarship that addresses how social, economic, behavioral, environmental and policy factors affect health outcomes at the individual and population level. The iCubed Oral Health in Childhood and Adolescence Transdisciplinary Core seeks to identify and remove the educational, political, psychological, social and nutritional barriers to the prevention and treatment of dental caries.
Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in public health or closely related fields, such as psychology, sociology, health services research or health policy. Applicants should show evidence of research productivity and the potential to obtain external funding.
Research areas of particular interest include (but are not limited to) oral health disparities, behavioral interventions, health equity, social determinants of health, health outcomes (including cost and quality of care), health policy, patient-provider communication, medical decision making, or cost-effectiveness. Strong quantitative research skills preferred with experience working with large data sets or bioinformatics. The faculty member will support the department with teaching responsibilities at the graduate level, including providing support to our PhD programs in Social and Behavioral Sciences and/or Healthcare Policy and Research. Candidates must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
