Job Description Touro University Nevada (TUN) is seeking a visionary leader to serve as its next Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM). TUN is part of the Touro College and University System, a Jewish-sponsored, private, not-for-profit system of 32 institutions, including 5 medical schools. As such, TCUS is one of the top systems of physician education in the US. The system also includes a dental school, a law school, several undergraduate programs, and a large variety of other health education professional programs. Touro University Nevada is the sister-campus to Touro University California, and together the two campuses comprise Touro Western Division. Touro University Nevada is located in Henderson, Nevada, which is part of the greater Las Vegas metropolitan area.
The mission of TUN is: To provide quality educational programs in the fields of health care and education in concert with the Judaic commitment to social justice, intellectual pursuit, and service to humanity. The Dean of COM will provide leadership and vision to build on the momentum of the College as it continues to advance. The Dean of the COM oversees two programs: the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program and the Master of Medical Health Sciences program. The Dean also serves as the Medical Director of the Touro Health Center, a 24 room outpatient clinic located on the TUN Campus.
Job Duties Reporting to the Provost, the next Dean will generate and allocate resources effectively to support the educational experiences for students and facilitate the teaching, professional development, and research activities of faculty. The Dean will recruit and cultivate strong faculty, and foster the development of future COM leadership. The Dean will be expected to promote innovation within the College, while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and collegiality across TUN, and throughout the University System. S/he will build ties with clinical and educational partners in the region, including the development of GME partnerships, and create a positive atmosphere for academic growth.
TUN is experiencing the greatest growth in its history, both in enrollment and in campus expansion. Total enrollment is currently greater than 1400 across two colleges and will approach 2000 over the next few years. The COM has received approval from COCA to expand enrollment from over 500 to over 700 over the next several years and will continue to be the largest medical school in the State for the foreseeable future. The campus is in the process of constructing and remodeling nearly 135,000 square feet of space. This space includes expanded classrooms, additional OSCE rooms, a larger OMM lab and anatomy lab, as well as a state of the art Tang Center for Regional Clinical Simulation and the Cloobeck Center for Disaster Life Support Training. Additionally, TUN has a comprehensive Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities clinic.
TUN has a College of Health and Human Services that houses five schools: Physician Assistant, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Education. The Dean of the COM is expected to actively participate in creating collaboration between the colleges. Opportunities exist in research, IPE, community outreach and service to the community.
Required Qualifications The Dean of TUNCOM will meet the qualifications for a Dean as outlined in the 2017 COCA Standards.
• Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree • A current medical license • Board certification • At least five years' experience in academic leadership roles, including budgetary authority • Ability to effectively lead the College in the advancement of education, scholarly activity and patient care • Collegiality, collaboration, and consensus, as well as interdisciplinary education are highly valued at TUN, and it is expected that the Dean of the COM would fit in this environment
