The Metrorail Safety Commission (MSC) is the new federally mandated State Safety Oversight Agency that is responsible for safety oversight of the second largest rail system in the United States operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA)
The MSC is governed by a 9-member commission from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. The powers and authority of the Commission and its staff have been established through an interstate compact.
The MSC is seeking experienced, safety-focused individuals who are eager to use their knowledge, skills and abilities to help drive the mission of the organization. Areas of expertise being sought include track and structures, vehicles, operations, signals/communications, traction power, accident investigations, program specialist, and emergency management. The MSC staff will be a combination of subject matter experts and technical program specialists in the various areas.

The Metrorail Safety Commission (MSC) is a new entity that was just formed through a legal compact and will be providing safety oversight of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Metrorail system. The MSC is funded by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (VDRPT).
