We have a great opportunity for an Immunohistochemistry Section Head to oversee the daily operation of the section(s) of the laboratory as designated in the New State Laboratory Permit consistent with regulations governing supervision of subordinate staff. You will assess new employees' initial competency and evaluates each employee as required by the department/institution as well as encourage and participate in staff development and continued competency assessment. Participate in the financial decisions and accountability of the department and plan for appropriate resources needed to accomplish the department's objectives.
In this role, specifically you will:
Be responsible for day-to-day supervision of high complexity testing performance by testing personnel.
Resolve technical problems and ensures that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviates from the labs' established performance specifications.
Ensure accuracy of patient test result reports and proper functioning of the test system.
Provide orientation to all testing personnel within department. Identifies training needs
Review worksheets, quality control records, proficiency testing results and preventive maintenance records. Observe performance of instrument and function checks.
Be responsible for department competencies. Evaluate and document the performance of individuals responsible for high complexity testing.
Work within the budget recommendations for area/Section of responsibility and maintain expenditures within the approved budget.
Develop, coordinate and provides team support. Trains, coaches and mentors staff. Present Continuing Education. . Education: Bachelor's Degree Health related field required. Licensure: New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist required. Experience: 3- 5 Years Related laboratory experience required. 1- 2 Years Supervisory or management required. Skills: Excellent communication (both written and oral), critical skills, problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills required. Intermediate computer skills including MS Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook required. Technical skills related to the laboratory discipline required.
