The Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is pleased to announce a new recruitment for additional academic pathologists. We are inviting applications from qualified candidates at all ranks for a full-time, tenure earning/tenured position or non-tenure through the Department of Pathology, School of Medicine. Candidate will be either covering Medical Autopsy service exclusively, and or will have responsibility in one area of surgical pathology. The candidates should have an M.D. (or M.D., Ph.D.), Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology, and be eligible for a license to practice medicine in Alabama. Prior administrative experience and surgical pathology subspecialty expertise will be favorable considered. The successful candidates beyond starting Assistant Professors should have regional/national reputation in their respective areas.
The Division of Anatomic Pathology includes approximately 20 faculty members with a diverse skill set and operational expertise encompassing several areas (Gynecologic Pathology, Breast Pathology, Gastrointestinal Pathology, Urologic Pathology, Head and Neck Pathology, Musculoskeletal Pathology, Autopsy Pathology to name but a few). Faculty are noted for multidisciplinary, academic productivity and national leadership. Over 60,000 specimens in the surgical pathology section (UAB/CCP) are processed and over 400 autopsies performed in a year. Division maintains an active fellowship program along with other programs in Cytopathology, Dermatopathology, Molecular Genetic Pathology and special fellowships in Organ-based Pathology. The faculty conduct a quality-teaching program along with a strong diverse research portfolio in translational investigations.
A pre-employment background investigation is performed on candidates selected for employment. In addition, physicians and other clinical faculty candidates who will be employed by the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation (UAHSF) or other UAB Medicine entities must successfully complete a pre-employment drug and nicotine screen to be hired.
