The Director of Risk Management is responsible for oversight of the risk management program at Montefiore New Rochelle, Montefiore Mount Vernon, Schaffer Extended Care Center, and the Montefiore School of Nursing, with the objective of enhancing and promoting patient safety, ensuring quality care, and minimizing loss to protect the assets of the facilities.
The program includes but may not be limited to oversight of facility insurance programs, management of claims, management and analysis of risk data, and compliance with regulatory standards of Joint Commission and other accrediting and regulatory agencies.
Providing proactive analysis of patient safety and medical error processes.
Participating in the process of disclosure for medical errors.
Conducting root cause analyses and reporting of sentinel events to appropriate parties.
Providing education and training to personnel to enhance their awareness of their role in reducing liability exposure.
Taking steps to minimize risk through response to regulatory and insurance survey report recommendations and deficiencies.
Investigating reports of product problems to determine appropriate response (in-house recalls, independent evaluations, etc.).
Participating in select committees related to provision of patient care.
Receiving incident reports and other information regarding untoward occurrences in the facility, such as quality assurance outliers or variations and collating such information systematically to permit analysis pursuant to risk management policy and procedure.
Designing, implementing and maintaining a direct referral system for staff to report unexpected events and potential claims through such input sources as medical records, business office, patient advocate, nursing, medical staff, quality improvement, etc.

Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university, along with a NYS RN license and registration. At least three years’ experience in Risk Management required. CP-HRM/CPPS certifications preferred.
