The Senior Research Compliance Specialist is responsible for providing high level services for the operation of Institutional Review Board (IRB), and the Intellectual Property Protection and Technology Transfer Program. Guides researchers and conducts trainings to the campus community regarding IRB submission/review processes and procedures. Performs high quality and thorough pre-reviews of submitted IRB protocols and facilitates the distribution of protocols to the IRB for review, modification, and approval. Independently organizes IRB meetings, and promptly and efficiently prepares and delivers all correspondences including agenda, minutes, modifications and approval letters. Manages, archives, and destroys as appropriate IRB records in compliance with Department of Health and Human Services and Office of Human Research Protections regulations. Drafts Standard Office Procedures (SOPs). Designs and updates protocol application forms, templates, and website. Improves the functionalities of the IRB electronic management system (IRBNet). Trains and supervises the junior level "Research Compliance Coordinator" to make sure that IRB tasks are completed promptly and correctly. Provides services to the University's Intellectual Property Protection and Technology Transfer Program by coordinating and facilitating the submission and review/approval process of "Disclosure of Discovery or Invention."
Strong knowledge of human subjects research protection regulations, especially as they are applied in a university setting, to make sure that federal, state laws as well as CSU Policies on Institutional Review Board (IRB) are applied correctly. Knowledge of intellectual property protection preferred. Working knowledge of an electronic IRB review system (such as IRBNet) required. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to work with a wide range of constituency ranging from faculty to students to administration. Strong organizational and project management skills. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal including excellent grammar skills. Demonstrated ability to deliver face-to-face education and training in a variety of settings and tailored to different audiences to achieve clear dissemination of information. Proven ability to train and supervise subordinates. Strong attention to detail. Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality in dealing with protected information. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and with teams, including effective use of delegation as a method to both manage tasks and develop personnel. Demonstrated courteous and effective interpersonal communication, problem solving and analytical skills, and the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage a complex workload in a fast-paced setting.

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of related experience in human subjects research administration in higher education required. Master's degree preferred.
Certified IRB Professional (CIP) is highly preferred.
Additional Salary Information: The salary range for this classification is $3,897 to $6,647 per month.
