The Director of Patient Safety is responsible for directing University of Minnesota Health’s (M Health) efforts to improve patient safety. This individual will work closely with senior M Health executives to provide leadership in developing a comprehensive program to minimize patient harm through the implementation of systems that: create a culture of safety; proactively identify risk; encourage adverse event reporting and detailed analysis of safety events and near misses; and facilitate leadership, clinician and staff learning. The Director develops strategic and operational plans that build upon the present patient safety program to assure M Health continues to proactively address patient safety issues and meets national best practice levels representative of the organization’s “world class academic medical center” vision. The Director has both direct and indirect reports.
Master’s degree in healthcare field or related discipline
Minimum of five (5) years of progressive administrative leadership experience in patient safety activities in an academic medical center or large, integrated healthcare setting providing subject matter expertise in the art and science of patient safety.
Clinical experience background
Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) and/or Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).
