The clinical practice has two distinct but complementary settings:
Children’s Mercy Hospital is an urban, tertiary care/academic children’s hospital with full pediatric medical/surgical support. Our faculty provides two distinct types of clinical service: •Attending supervision of academic teams of residents and students. •24/7 direct care on a hospitalist-only team comprised of medically complex and diverse general pediatric patients. Fellows, medical students and residents on elective may be part of the team.
Children’s Mercy Kansas is a unique, free-standing community children’s hospital located 12 miles southwest of Children’s Mercy Hospital. The hospital serves a breadth of pediatric diagnoses with lower acuity than our main campus. Clinical service on this campus offers a complementary clinical experience, featuring: •24/7 direct care of patients on a hospitalist-only team with high turnover on a small, collegial, inpatient unit. •Professionally stimulating, direct interaction with pediatric professionals in our busy on-site pediatric emergency department, as well as in our community referral area.
Children’s Mercy Kansas City is an independent, non-profit, 367-bed pediatric health system, providing half a million patient encounters each year for children from across the country. Children’s Mercy is ranked by U.S. News & World Report in all 10 specialties, and as one of “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals”. We have received Magnet® recognition four times for excellence in nursing services. In affiliation with the University of Missouri-Kansas City, our medical staff of more than 750 pediatric specialists and researchers is actively involved in clinical care, pediatric research and educating the next generation of pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists.
