The Department of Health Sciences at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a 12-month, tenured full professor to serve as department chair, beginning summer or fall of 2019. The department seeks an innovative, visionary, and energetic leader who can leverage the existing strengths of the department to create a meaningful impact on the college, university, and community. The selected candidate will have the ability to lead the department through exciting changes as UCF strengthens health and academic programming on campus. The successful candidate will provide academic and administrative leadership and will facilitate intradepartmental and external collaborations to enhance the impact of scholarship, teaching, and service. Furthermore, the candidate will support and mentor faculty and staff, promote a collegial and collaborative environment, and be able to support the department’s mission and lead it to the next academic milestone.
Formerly a program, Health Sciences was elevated to a department in summer 2018 as part of UCF’s academic restructure and the creation of the new Academic Health Sciences Center (AHSC) and the College of Health Professions and Sciences. With the focus on clinical, behavioral and pathophysiological understanding of human health, the department aspires to promote and improve the health and well-being of local and global communities through transformative, innovative, and inclusive education, research, clinical practice, and service. With about 4,000 undergraduate students, this unit is recognized for its superior quality of educational offerings and its contributions to health care, scholarship, and service to our community. The department currently offers a major and minor in Health Sciences, and it is in the process of developing graduate degrees in nutrition, pathophysiology, and health promotion. The Department of Health Sciences is housed within the newly formed College of Health Professions and Sciences (CHPS) at UCF. The college is a core member of the newly?formed UCF Academic Health Sciences Center (AHSC) along with the existing Colleges of Nursing and Medicine. CHPS hosts four academic units: the Department of Health Sciences, the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the School of Kinesiology and Physical Therapy, and the School of Social Work.

Position Minimum Qualifications • A doctoral degree in a Health Sciences related field from an accredited institution with emphasis on disciplines related to the department’s strategic mission. • An outstanding record of teaching, research, grant funding and scholarly achievements commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of full professor. • Demonstration of significant and successful administrative leadership experience in a university setting.
Preferences The ideal candidate should have: • a proven record of collaborative leadership and administrative style, and a strong commitment to support the department’s mission; • an established academic record and commitment to effectively mentor faculty and staff within the department; • experience in program development, and the ability to oversee diverse health programs; • the ability to communicate and interact effectively with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community partners; • the ability to create and support partnerships both within and outside the department, college and university; • a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity; and • the ability to support the future growth and expansion of the department.
