The lab of Dr. Catherine Christian, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to work on an NIH-funded project investigating the neural and pituitary mechanisms that underlie comorbid reproductive endocrine disorders in a mouse model of temporal lobe epilepsy. The project for this specific position will focus on determining the functional relationships between hippocampal seizure activity, hypothalamic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) release, and pituitary response to GnRH using in vivo EEG, optogenetics, and pituitary gland gene expression analysis and hormone assays.
Our lab uses a variety of approaches including patch clamp electrophysiology, EEG, stereotactic surgeries, optogenetics/chemogenetics, neuroanatomy, viral vectors, and transgenic mouse models to explore research questions at the intersection of neuroscience, physiology, and endocrinology. A Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related field is required. Candidates close to defending their dissertation will be considered. The successful applicant will have evidence of research productivity as shown in at least one high-quality first-author publication, good oral and written communication skills, and will be highly motivated and self-driven.
