The Divisions of General Academic Pediatrics and Neonatology & Newborn Medicine at MassGeneral Hospital for Children are seeking applications for a full-time faculty member at the level of Instructor, Assistant Professor or Associate Professor with expertise in translational science applied to the field of maternal-child health. Both academic divisions at MGHfC are dedicated to generating and applying new scientific knowledge to achieve breakthrough impacts in health promotion and disease prevention. Faculty across MGHfC broadly are currently leading efforts in:
Advancing fundamental and translational research on human development and disease with a focus on biological plasticity and heterogeneity;
Studying the effects of early life stress on learning, behavior, and lifelong health;
Preventing, reducing, and eliminating disparities in maternal-child health through our First 1,000 Days program;
Designing and testing new models of pediatric primary care for children facing adversity in partnership with the Harvard Center on the Developing Child and MGH Revere Health Center;
Improving population health across the life course through innovations in research, patient care, medical education, and community action; and
Utilizing novel informatic approaches, including artificial intelligence, to identify health and healthcare trends at the individual and population level.
We seek to prepare and support creative researchers in the translation of rigorous fundamental science into clinical applications to improve the health of women and children beginning in the perinatal period. Faculty in the Divisions receive research funding from NIH, PCORI, CDC, MCHB, foundations, and individual philanthropy.
Both clinician-researchers and non-clinician, doctoral-level scientists are invited to apply. The Divisions seek candidates with expertise in developmental biology, neuroscience, perinatal epidemiology, population genetics, or a related field. Experience in precision medicine approaches or other strategies for addressing health disparities will be considered a plus. Successful applicants will have a track record of federal funding (or plans to seek such funding), high quality peer-reviewed publications, demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary research team, and capacity to build a strong research program in translational maternal-child health. We seek to attract a highly engaged and diverse faculty. Academic rank at Harvard Medical School (Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor) and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, in addition to teaching activities. Part-time clinical practice opportunities are possible in neonatology, newborn medicine, and general pediatrics, as is a joint appointment at the Harvard Center on the Developing Child.
