The Operational Excellence Specialist facilitates process and performance improvement activities throughout AU Health. This position is administratively aligned with the Chief Medical Officer and reports directly to management in Operational Excellence. Facilitation is accomplished by coaching, leading and supporting improvement efforts through the use of Lean Six Sigma and Performance Improvement tools and methods. The incumbent in this role will facilitate performance improvement projects that have been assigned by Operational Excellence management. These projects may focus on improvement in clinical outcomes, patient safety, cost reduction and efficiency, clinical utilization and management, integrated growth and performance management, and patient / customer experience. All involve the ability to assist teams with data analysis, utilization of process improvement tools, and implementation of redesigned processes for clinical and operational functions. Responsibilities are varied in nature and include providing expertise regarding team dynamics and change management, process redesign strategies, Lean and Six Sigma tool sets and technical expertise, such as process flow charting. The incumbent will be responsible for training, coaching, and mentoring the staff that report to the CMO as well as other health system employees as needed on process improvement principles and relevant tools. Projects that are assigned can be based upon diagnoses, procedures, and other health care processes in accordance with demonstrated institutional needs, as well as The Joint Commission standards and other regulatory guidelines.

Bachelor’s degree in an allied health or nursing field. • Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience working in a healthcare setting with a focus on process and performance improvement, quality, patient safety, and/or infection prevention activities. • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills, with ability to work well in a team environment requiring a high-degree of creativity and motivation. • Knowledge of Lean & Six Sigma and other continuous process and performance methodologies. • Black Belt certification from an accredited organization or currently enrolled in program to obtain certification from an accredited organization within 18 months of hire date. • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications to include Visio, Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook. • Demonstrated ability to learn and utilize new software and web applications for data entry and report generation. • Understanding of how the medical center departments interact with each other to support patient care and operations. • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. • Ability to work with a wide variety of staff. • Strong command of medical terminology, disease processes, treatment protocols and/or clinical knowledge and understanding of patient care
