Department Summary: Bridgewater State University’s health programs are housed in the Department of Movement Arts, Health Promotion, and Leisure Studies (MAHPLS). In addition to the health programs, the department is home to athletic training and physical education majors. The department prepares public and community health professionals, athletic trainers, coaches, fitness and recreation leaders, and school teachers in health, physical education, and adapted physical education to provide qualified leadership in their respective fields, and enhance the quality of life of residents of the region and the Commonwealth.
Essential Duties: The MAHPLS Department is the home of three health-related majors: Public Health, Health Studies, and an anticipated major in Health Science. Teaching responsibilities will cross over all majors and may include classes in epidemiology, program planning, evaluation and research, community health, informatics, and health care policy, as well as health content courses. Additionally, the successful candidate will mentor and advise students, supervise fieldwork assignments, engage in scholarly activity, and provide service to the university and the community. Successful candidates may have the opportunity to teach graduate students for additional compensation.
Required Qualifications: - Earned doctorate in Public Health, Health Sciences, or Health Education. ABD candidates will be considered. Degree must be conferred by September 1, 2019 - Experience in teaching undergraduate health courses - Demonstrated success in scholarly activity - Strong commitment to excellence in teaching and advising - Strong commitment to diversity and multiculturalism
Preferred Qualifications: Certified in Public Health (CPH) credential or Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification
