The Proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine will be hiring both faculty positions that include scientists/educators as well as physicians both full time and part time to serve our mission. Innovative curriculum design includes a Team Based Learning environment with emphasis on collaboration. A multitude of staff positions including admissions, simulation center, anatomy lab, standardized patients administrative support, education specialists and a clinical psychologist will also be added over the next two years.
CHSU plans to open up to 10 post-graduate colleges to train health care professionals in the coming years. The timing and specific discipline for each new school will be determined based on the need and opportunity for job placement within the region.

At this time California Health Sciences University is seeking full-time Clinical Faculty. Clinical Faculty (full time or part time adjuncts) will have a vision of the skills, expertise and knowledge needed by the osteopathic physician of the future as well as the curriculum needed to provide these outcomes. Clinical Faculty will have excellent interpersonal skills to successfully deliver an active learning curriculum in a Team Based Learning (TBL) environment. Knowledge and skills in OMM are preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Plan for, develop and deliver curricular components of the Clinical TBL patient discussions.
Develop Learning objectives for each session delivered
Create pre-classroom assignments, such as narrated PowerPoints, case based materials and other readings
Develop test questions and assessment tools that match the learning objectives
Participate in Item Writing Workshops to develop test writing skills
Participate in quality and improvement of the clinical educational programs to assure their effectiveness
Collaborate to develop faculty development for all colleagues
Participate in the training of Standardized patients
Review video recording of Standardized Patient sessions
Participate as needed, as an OPP table trainer under the guidance of the OPP Faculty and Chair
Participate in COM committees such as Admissions, Awards, Curriculum, etc.
Serve as an advisor for a cohort of medical students regardless of specialty
Serve as a Faculty Chapter advisor for student interested groups/clubs
Produce scholarly activities, especially related to learning outcomes
Other duties to be assigned as necessary and may change to meet the COM’s needs
This job description is not intended to be all inclusive and the employee will also perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by the Associate Dean for Osteopathic Clinical Education.
Possess a medical degree (DO or MD) as well as board certification from the AOA or ABMS in primary care or other specialties. Preference will be given to those with prior clinical teaching experience at a College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Ability to deliver Active Learning / Flipped Classroom presentations in TBL format
Understand the importance of and follow a set structured curriculum with program learning objectives
Ability to adhere to deadlines for work projects assigned.
Adhere to professional code of conduct regarding Faculty/Student title IX topics
Motivation to encourage Interprofessional Education
Strong interpersonal skills, communication and enthusiasm to contribute to faculty growth and development
Strong oral and written communication and computer skills

CHSU is committed to active learning and embraces the approach called “team-based learning” (TBL) as the foundational strategy for didactic classes. TBL actively involves students in their learning (through pre-class study and preparation), problem-solving (solving problems presented as case scenarios), critical thinking and decision-making (developing alternative explanations and proposals, then choosing the best one). TBL encourages individual accountability (preparation for class and contribution to team assignments), team collaboration, and the elevation of knowledge by applying fundamental concepts to disciplinary problems that are solved in the classroom. Other active-learning approaches are used if a different format is indicated for the type of learning being pursued. These include guided inquiry, workshops, laboratories, projects, presentations, and experiences.
