The School of Health Studies includes programs in Public Health, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Medical Laboratory Sciences. NIU encourages faculty research collaboration within the programs of the department. The M.P.H. program is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health.
Northern Illinois University is a comprehensive research university offering programs from the baccalaureate through the doctorate. Function of the Job
The School of Health Studies, in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Northern Illinois University, is seeking qualified applicants for the Assistant/Associate Professor of Public Health. The department is responsible for the following degrees in Public Health, B.S., B.S. to M.P.H. option and M.P.H. The B.S. in public health program is one of the largest undergraduate programs in the college. This B.S. includes emphases in health administration, environment and health,health promotion, and general public health which includes practicum experience in preparation for a variety of career opportunities. High achieving undergraduate students can apply for the accelerated five-year B.S. to M.P.H. program. The growing M.P.H. program is offered online and face-to-face with specializations in health promotion and health services management. A graduate certificate and undergraduate minor in Public Health offer options for additional career choices to students outside of public health. We seek collegial faculty who embrace NIU’s mission of providing opportunities to a diverse student body through engaging them with access to high quality education and hands-on experiences in research and community partnerships.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant/Associate Professor of Public Health will be expected to contribute to both the undergraduate and graduate programs through, but not limited to, the following duties:
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses to meet CEPH competencies in Public Health Policy, Health services management and/or other areas as needed;
Advise graduate students;
Manage online and face to face course delivery
Pursue a focused research agenda;
Seek external research funding
Applicants should havea PhD, or Dr. P.H. degree with expertise in health services management or health administration. The desired candidate will demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with experience in teaching and managing online course delivery, in addition to curricular development. We seek candidates with a proven ability to conduct research, publish results, and secure external funding. Practical/professional expertise in public health policy and related public health fields desired.
Preference will be given to candidates with a graduate degree in public health and experience with biostatistics or quantitative methods.
