Summary of Key Responsibilities: The Director of Research Operations for Cardiovascular is responsible for the full scope of clinical research operations in the areas of cardiovascular. This includes: fiscal management, study operations, program development, patient recruitment, trial management, and personnel administration. The position requires managerial and leadership skills, and excellent organizational abilities. The Director works closely with administration at the facilities where research is being conducted, with the physician practices and their specific administrators, and a team of operations managers responsible for local and regional study conduct and coordination.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in developing and executing internal and external strategies.
Provides timely updates to executive management regarding operational and regulatory challenges and issues related to study operations.
Meets with the hospital management and physician investigators as needed to ensure contracted services are being provided in an effective and timely manner.
Ensures general inquiries from current and prospective patients, sponsors, and physicians are appropriately addressed.
Presents data and/or represents company at external forums as necessary.
Demonstrates the ability to collaborate with internal and external teams.
Conducts regular departmental and staff meetings.
Develops the organizational budget for cardiovascular operations, monitors expenses and manages to budget.
Provides oversight, leadership and direction in the execution and management of studies.
Attends and participates in all required meetings including Protocol Review, Team, and Directors meetings.
Monitors patient accrual rates and implements action plans for sites with accrual challenges
Convenes multi-disciplinary teams to address clinical study challenges in a timely manner.
Supports institutional efforts to promote recruitment, retention and professional development of research staff.
Assesses all research operations personnel with respect to role responsibilities, goal achievement and performance expectations.
Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, and as necessary, termination of employees.
Works to motivate staff, recognize their achievements, and drive excellent results.
Assesses organizational processes associated with study execution and identifies ways to enhance and streamline those internal processes.
Assesses quality and integrity of data and performance of clinical studies and works with Regional Research Managers to develop applicable corrective action plans.
Knowledge of cardiovascular clinical research, and ability to acquire necessary knowledge for cardiovascular clinical research

Bachelor Degree required; Master's Degree is preferred
At least three years of management experience required
At least three years of clinical research experience
Certification or License:
CCRP is preferred
CCRC is preferred
