Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications for a 12-month open rank tenure-track position in the department of Health Behavior and Policy. The department is part of the School of Medicine and closely affiliated with Massey Cancer Center. Our mission is to bring together a multidisciplinary faculty to promote research and scholarship that addresses how social, economic, behavioral and policy factors affect health outcomes at the individual and population levels.
We seek applications from creative, dynamic individuals who share in our commitment to excellence in research and scholarship in public health and prevention science. Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in public health or closely related fields, such as psychology, sociology, or health policy. Applicants should show evidence of research productivity and the potential to obtain external funding.
Successful applicants will have a well-developed program of research related to cancer disparities and health equity, and be poised to contribute to the cancer prevention and control program at Massey Cancer Center. Within this broader lens, areas of particular interest for this position include (but are not limited to): behavioral intervention trials, men’s health, rural health, cost and quality of care, and medical decision making. Strong quantitative skills are highly desired. The faculty member will also support the department with teaching responsibilities at the graduate level, including providing support to our PhD programs in Social and Behavioral Sciences and Healthcare Policy and Research. Candidates must have demonstrated experience working in a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment and fostering an inclusive environment, or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
