The Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, in the School of Public Health (SPH) at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is seeking an Associate Professor (tenured) in Maternal Child Health (MCH) Epidemiology (EPI).
The MCH Program at UIC-SPH is a nearly twenty-year joint effort of the Divisions of Epidemiology-Biostatistics and Community Health Sciences with strong ties to the Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health. The program is known nationally for its applied focus in research, teaching and training, and capacity building along with its strong links to the field of MCH Epidemiology at the local, state, and national levels. To build the analytic capacity of the MCH and MCH EPI workforces, the program offers MPH and PhD degree concentrations in MCH Epidemiology and has been involved in leading and teaching national analytic trainings for the MCH workforce. Faculty affiliated with the program have backgrounds in women's health, reproductive and perinatal health, pediatric health, nutrition, gender-based violence, and implementation science. In addition to maintaining individual research agendas, our MCH EPI faculty frequently collaborate on a variety of applied research projects including needs assessments, program evaluations, and MCH-related data analytic support for local, state, and federal partners.
The successful applicant will have a doctoral degree in epidemiology, or a related quantitative field. A background in maternal and child health, population health or community health, an interest in MCH epidemiology applied research, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring preferred.
Candidates should demonstrate a strong record of research or practice-based scholarship, potential for securing external funding, and evidence of effective teaching and mentoring. Expertise in mixed methods, experience in conducting applied studies in conjunction with the public health practice community, and familiarity with sources of data such as Medicaid claims, the National Survey of Children's Health, the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System, and vital statistics is desirable.
