Alberta Public Laboratories (APL) (formerly Calgary Laboratory Services) and the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine (DPLM) at the University Of Calgary (U of C) Cumming School Of Medicine are seeking a full time (1.0 FTE) qualified Clinical Biochemist specializing in mass spectrometry with a commanding knowledge and proven experience in method development. Preference will be given to board-certified/eligible clinical biochemists. In addition, the successful candidate must have experience or strong interest in teaching and clinical research. Candidates must have strong references and possess a strong track record of collegiality with co-workers. The successful candidate will join our current group of greater than hundred laboratory physicians and clinical laboratory doctoral scientists in the South Sector of APL.
APL is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alberta Health Services (AHS) and delivers all publicly-funded laboratory services in Alberta. APL has an annual test volume of >30,000,000, and includes the clinical laboratories at the hospitals and health care centers throughout central and southern Alberta, as well as the comprehensive laboratory services provided in the academic hub laboratory located in the City of Calgary. APL – South Sector is affiliated with the U of C and the successful candidate will receive a Clinical Faculty appointment at the U of C based on academic credentials. The DPLM and APL – South Sector offer a Clinical Biochemistry Fellowship Training Program, as well as residency and other fellowship training programs in Anatomic Pathology, General Pathology, Microbiology and Neuropathology.

Job Summary & Responsibilities
Each Clinical Biochemist takes direction from, and reports to the Clinical Section Chief – South Sector, Clinical Biochemistry, who in turn reports to the Medical Director South Sector and the DPLM Clinical Department Head. Clinical Biochemists must maintain the highest possible standards of practice including prompt delivery of services to match established performance indicators and quality assurance standards, and must actively participate in teaching. The successful candidate will also provide services for electrophoresis. Innovation and building on service excellence are very important for ongoing success of clinical biochemistry in the South Sector of APL.
The successful candidate must possess an earned doctorate (PhD) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or related disciplines and certification (or eligibility) by the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry or an equivalent (e.g. American Board of Clinical Chemistry).
