POSITION: Middle School Speech and Language Pathologist
REPORTS TO: Middle School Principal
PURPOSE
Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) educators provide memorable experiences for JIS students. The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) assumes the responsibility to screen, assess, diagnose, refer, provide intervention for and counsel students in Grades 6 to 8 with communication deficits and/or disorders. JIS educators work in a professional learning community to continuously improve teaching practice for the benefit of the students at JIS in pursuit of our Mission, Vision, Values and Dispositions.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Effectively engage with the JIS Experience by:
Providing support for students with articulation, fluency, voice and language impairments
Being responsible for reducing the functional consequences of communication impairments and lessening the social consequences of these disabilities
Supporting and facilitating development in receptive and expressive language for identified at-risk children through planning explicit lessons with classroom teachers, co-teaching, providing demonstration lessons and offering pull-out services as required
Engaging in best practice using effective teaching and clinical methods in a collaborative environment
Being a Case Manager:
Taking the lead on communication with the parents, content teachers and Host Country Staff
Overseeing and being responsible for data collection and ensuring the implementation of the ILP/SAP or other support needs, as well as reporting out twice a year on student ILP goals
Working closely with Head of Department to plan cooperatively, develop curriculum and maintain a positive, professional school climate
Participating in professional learning
Maintaining an open attitude toward new ideas and accepting of others whose experiences, opinions and beliefs may differ
Engaging with the JIS Supervision and Evaluation process
Continuing to develop pedagogy that benefits student learning
Ensuring effective delivery of curriculum and contribute to curriculum development
Providing effective feedback using common formative and summative assessments that help to shape the next learning experience
Demonstrating knowledge and skills in the content areas and explicitly developing the Learning Dispositions
Collaborating with the Student Support Team (SST) and executing ILPs as appropriate for students in their charge
Building positive interpersonal relationships, actively engaging in Child Protection practices
Developing and promoting positive interactions among our diverse student body
Fostering sense of identity and pride in the school among students, parents and colleagues
Collaborating with department team, School Wide teams and SST
Communicating effectively with all members of the JIS community
Empowering students to take responsibility for their learning and actions
Persevering by channeling the energy of frustration productively
Identifying and seeking support when in need
Embracing the JIS Learning Dispositions of Resilience, Resourcefulness, Relating and Reflectiveness
Performing other related duties and assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the MS Principal
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCES and ATTRIBUTES
Minimum Master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology or Communication Disorders
Maintain Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech and Language Pathology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association or a comparable professional licensing organization
Minimum five years of experience working with children in a school-based setting as an SLP
Experience in a school with a well-defined Middle School philosophy – International setting preferred
Experience co-teaching and working collaboratively with classroom teachers preferred
Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Experience with and commitment to a Professional Learning Community (PLC) and departmental work
Excellent interpersonal skills in order to collaborate with staff, parents and students, and provide on-going staff development and leadership
Strong assessment and therapy skills
Native proficiency in all skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing English
Passion for Middle School
Clear commitment to Child Protection, safety, service learning and environmental stewardship
