The person in this position will work mainly with STI’s shop fabricated tank section. Much of the work will be done independently, but with collaboration from STI’s technical committee. Responsibilities include:
Manage our tank inspection certification program. This includes coordinating with the 40+ member committee as necessary to update the SP001 Inspection Standard and SP031 Repair Standard. Supervise the AST Inspector Certification Program that includes working with instructors, developing requirements and exams, setting schedule and locations for classes. Answer questions about the use of these standards and maintain consistency in responses.
Update and maintain STI tank fabrication standards. Inform member manufacturers of the requirements and answering questions. Through committees, update standards as needed by developing draft language, present technical information on topics, developing consensus, and communicating changes to the manufacturers
Update and maintain the STI owned UL and SwRI Listing files. Responsible for all aspects of a project, from obtaining the quote, determining what testing is required, obtaining samples, performing preliminary research, and writing project reports. Add and subtract licensed members to the Listings.
Represent STI at industry meetings, conferences, and trade shows. Attend meetings such as API, UL/ULC, Fire Code committees and PEI. Represent steel tank fabricators at other industries’ standards development meetings by presenting information on steel tanks and the STI licensing program to obtain the best possible opportunities for our member manufacturers.
Give presentations to promote information about STI technologies and other topics of interest to the steel tank and petroleum storage industry groups.
Answer questions from STI members, tank owners, regulators/AHJs. STI’s goal is to be the recognized authority on steel tanks. As such, we receive many questions on a variety of topics.
Safety and Health committee liaison. With the chair, co-chair and consultant, develop meeting agendas and minutes. Produce Spotlight newsletter with consultant and Communications Manager. Update Safety and Health documents.
Provide education and training, from on-line webinars to in-person certification

Ideally, you will also have experience with one or more of the following:
Underwriters Laboratories tank standards
EPA regulations such as 40CFR 112 or 40CFR280
Manufacturing of steel products
ASME pressure vessels, API 620 or API 650 standards
NFPA 30 and 30A
Bachelor’s degree in engineering
Minimum 5 years experience
Willing to travel 20% - 33%
Additional Salary Information: up to $75,000 commensurate with experience
