A full-time postdoctoral position is available in the new laboratory of Dr. BYOUNG-IL BAE in Department of Neuroscience at University of Connecticut School of Medicine (UConn Health). The BAE lab fearlessly studies cerebral cortical development at the molecular and cellular levels using insights from human genetic disorders and rigorous animal models including genetically engineered ferrets (Johnson, …, Walsh, and Bae. Aspm knockout ferret reveals an evolutionary mechanism governing cerebral cortical size. Nature. 2018). For more information, please check the principal investigator’s ORCID at https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9958-678X.
In the next 5 years, the BAE lab will focus on (1) how outer radial glial cells — a type of cortical progenitor cells whose abundance is evolutionarily divergent — emerge and proliferate in vivo in health and disease; (2) how abnormal neurogenesis contributes to autism spectrum disorder; and (3) how mutations in widely expressed genes cause tissue-specific phenotypes in neurodevelopmental disorders.
UConn Health has an interactive and vibrant research community, and offers employees excellent benefits. Farmington and surrounding areas provide quality living environment.
REQUIREMENTS. Applicants should be passionate about cerebral cortical development and hold a Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or Neuroscience, broadly defined. Experience with molecular and cellular biology techniques is necessary, and experience with in utero intraventricular electroporation or live imaging will be favorably considered. Excellent organizational skills, written and verbal communication skills, and willingness to write grant proposals and manuscripts are necessary.
TO APPLY. Please submit a single PDF file to email@example.com including (1) a cover letter with a statement of research experience and interest, (2) a curriculum vitae, and (3) a list of three references. Anticipated start date is as soon as possible.
