Company Overview: Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) has an exciting opportunity for a Transportation Project Engineer with successful and progressive experience in preparing and reviewing engineering designs, coordinating engineering and construction work performed by consultants/contractors, conducting field inspections, preparing cost estimates, participation in planning studies, and conducting research.
Transportation Project Engineer - Position Overview: The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional engineering support for bus capital design and construction projects. The position will support PSTA’s several innovative initiatives such as the Central Avenue BRT and other capital projects. The position will be part of PSTA’s growing Project Management Office
Typical duties include: preparing and reviewing engineering designs, coordinating engineering and construction work performed by consultants/contractors, conducting field inspections, preparing cost estimates, participation in planning studies, and conducting research. The selected candidate must also have a proven ability in problem identification and problem solving. The successful candidate should have worked with approval agencies with a demonstrated ability to successfully deliver completed projects.
Designs, develops, and updates plans, specifications, and estimates for various construction projects such as bus facilities including stops, transit centers and park-and-rides.
Creates and reviews analytical reports and correspondence on construction projects for conformance to internal policies and procedures.
Coordinates consultant submittal reviews, meetings, and other design activities with other departments, outside agencies, and utilities.
Performs technical reviews and provides recommendations regarding designs and reports prepared by consulting engineers.
Conducts engineering research and assists in field inspections of construction projects.
Updates specifications and develops independent cost estimates for various transit projects.
Coordinates with communities and other agencies and attends technical committee meetings.
Provides support to assigned project managers by assisting in research and ongoing engineering issues; evaluating alternative solutions; and providing recommendations for the preferred approach.
Create in-house design plans for different traffic and civil designs.
Performs traffic engineering studies and analysis to support development of bus facility projects.
Participates in planning studies.
Prepares and monitors the budget and schedules for assigned projects.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education:Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering, or related field. A Professional Engineering License is preferred. Will consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties.
Experience:At least 4 years' experience in progressive responsibility for projects in design and/or construction.
