WORK SCHEDULE: Days (Duration, 2 years with possibility of extension based on availability of funding)
WORK TYPE: Part Time
The Postdoctoral fellow will be able to leverage Geisinger data assets to develop predictive models of complex diseases and generate novel hypothesis and knowledge specifically in the field of health research with special focus in cerebrovascular disease (stroke and transient Ischemic Attack).
The candidate can leverage Geisinger Health System’s unique resources that are of particular interest. The Geisinger Electronic Health Record (EHR) captures over 60M+ encounters and 10M+ claims with around 1.8 million patients (30-40% active patients). Geisinger has a national reputation for both high-quality patient care and for being an innovative, and integrated health care delivery system. This is especially true around electronic health information, being an early adopter of EPIC (1996) and building an enterprise-wide clinical data warehouse that contains comprehensive clinical (EPIC) data, insurance claims, geocode data, billing data (through Geisinger Health Plan) and, vaccination database, to mention few. The EHR data associated with active patients spans multiple years, with a median of 116 laboratory results and 18 medication orders per patient. Geisinger data and resource include also the MyCode Community Health Initiative, an electronic health record-linked biorepository with more than 200,000 consented participants and a database of more than 90,000 exome sequences. The health record linked sequence data is being used to identify genes and pathways associated with a host of important clinical traits. A major focus of our work will be to investigate the functional consequences of individual variation to elucidate the basis of observed conditions.
The candidate will work closely with study team lead primarily by Drs. Abedi, Zand and Li to implement, test and validate the findings. This person will work closely with colleagues in other Geisinger research programs.
