The Quality and Risk Management Division at SWVMHI administers the programs to improve organizational performance, the Risk Management Program, the Corporate Compliance Program, and the Utilization Review activities that ensure the institute’s current compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. It is designed to support the primary mission of a busy state psychiatric, inpatient facility. SWVMHI provides services for more than 1,000 patients per year in units for Adult Acute, Adult Long Term, and Geriatric patients, with a staff of approximately 570 full and part-time employees.
It is the responsibility of the Director of Quality/Risk Management to plan, implement, and direct facility programs in the area of Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement and Risk Management, to ensure full implementation of Corporate Compliance and Utilization Review programs. The Director of QRM will ensure that the programs meet or exceed external accreditation, review, and DBHDS standards, and that staff are systematically apprised of new standards and expectations. Utilization of information will be in accordance with HIPAA regulations regarding use, limitation, disclosure, and requests of PHI. The Director of Quality/Risk Management is a member of the Executive Team (ET) and reports directly to the Facility Director.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
Extensive knowledge of healthcare process improvement and project management and ability to implement a broad and moderately complex Quality and Risk Management program, including creating and managing processes to track trends and patterns of key clinical indicators.
Ability to lead Performance Improvement teams including Root Cause Analysis/Failure Mode Effect Analysis and those related to a Patient and Staff Safety Culture.
Ability to independently develop measures and metrics and aggregate data into graphics and tables.
Ability to evaluate and resolve system problems related to performance improvement and risk management.
Ability to understand and interpret requirements for maintaining Joint Commission accreditation and CMS Medicare/Medicaid certification.
Knowledge of Corporate Compliance (HIPAA) and Utilization Review.
Progressive management experience and successful track record of leading and driving change.
Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of hospital leaders.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Graduate degree in business, hospital management or related field, show proven experience with process implementation and change management and strong analytical experience is strongly preferred. Prefer experience in a healthcare setting with strong knowledge of TJC/CMS standards/regulations. Experience conducting and/or supervising Corporate Compliance (HIPAA) and Utilization Management programs are also preferred.
Prefer LEAN and/or Six Sigma certification and Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality.
