We are seeking a highly organized, independent, motivated and diversely experienced transportation engineer for our nationally recognized transportation practice. This position will lead the licensure of the firm to practice engineering in multiple US States, oversee the design and engineering staff of the firm, support Principals in all sectors of the firm in business development and project delivery and manage the workload, quality control and training of the design team. This position will serve as the Engineer of Record for the firm and oversee staff work in order to comply with State requirements for the practice of engineering. Proven experience in the conceptual design and preliminary engineering of BRT, LRT, Streetcar and enhanced bus transit corridors and geometric design of active transportation facilities, complete streets and multimodal intersection design is required. Proven experience in conceptual site design for development, traffic modelling and analysis, and traffic impact assessments is preferred.
Qualifications and Requirements
Holds a Professional Engineering license in multiple US States is required, with a preference given for CA, CO, TX, or OR.
Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in transportation engineering with a balance of civil geometric design and traffic engineering.
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. Master’s degree in engineering or a relevant and complementary field is preferred.
Experience working with transportation planning or additional relevant educational attainment in planning, urban design, or landscape architecture
Knowledge of AutoCAD or other computer based design packages. Experience with traffic engineering packages such as Synchro and Vissim is preferred.
Broad range of transportation and urban planning experience, with a focus on surface transit and multimodal planning and design.
Excellent written, verbal, graphic and other communication skills, including facilitating public workshops.
Successful applicants will be expected to:
Manage the workload of a design team located in offices across the country.
Mentor and train engineering and planning staff.
Contribute technical content to sales efforts, proposals and deliverables.
Work successfully with clients, members of the public, and project teams.
Serve as project or task managers and manage projects within budget.
Analyze a wide range of transportation data and manage the completion of technical analyses, feasibility studies, and other transportation reports.
Participate in firm-wide strategic planning activities to ensure that we continue to build on our mission and core values.
Organize and supervise multi-modal and parking data collection activities in the office and the field.
Scope, price and develop the work plan, and deliver design and traffic engineering tasks for multiple concurrent projects.
Above all, we are looking for someone who has a passion for sustainable transportation planning and design, is a strong communicator (oral, written, and visual), has great analytical skills, and is interested in making communities better for our clients and their constituents.
This positions ideally would be based in Seattle, WA or Portland, OR. Both San Francisco, CA and Los Angeles, CA would also be considered.
